Bringing a "new wave of conventional and unconventional improv to the stag," as the website says, this event was created to promote awareness and appreciation of the art on improvisational comedy - or in layperson's terms, so you can laugh until you cry over a three-day period.
Debuting in 2002 and going strong for the past six years, the Phoenix Improv Festival features comedians from all over the United States who are dedicated to their craft enough to journey to the end of the Earth (i.e. Phoenix) on the cusp of summer to perform.
At least 19 comedy troupes - including the local Light Rail Pirates, Trophy Wife hailing from Hollywood and TJ and Pete, a.k.a. as the "Sonic Guys" who are in the classic commercials about drinks and tots - will be doing what they do best over the weekend festival.
This festival gives Phoenicians the opportunity to see some of the best improvisational talent in America. All the troupes are bound to make you at least crack a smile or two.
As if you weren't as happy as a clam already, the festival has an open submission policy, so if you think you and your friends are funny enough, sign up to be a part of the madness. Who knows, you may end up on television doing commercials like TJ and Pete?
