As part of the Luna Fitness program, I got to meet with Lesley Pelkey, the program's mind and body wellness practitioner, to discuss my mental and emotional body, in accordance to all the physical work I'm doing at the gym.

Pelkey grew up in Minnesota but moved to Arizona after college and enrolled at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, and began training as a life coach.

"A life coach is somebody who's trained to guide and ask their clients the right questions so they can find the answers inside themselves. Life coaches can take you from where you're at now to where you want to be."

During her training at SWIHA she learned about Reiki, toe reading and hypnotherapy.

Pelkey said toe readings are about "reading the cellular memory in the body; your feet are a hologram of your whole body." Depending on things like bumps and colors in your toes, Pelkey said she can see things that might have happened to clients a long time ago. Doing this helps them realize things that might currently be affecting their life.

Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, "allows for you to get into a state where the conscious mind can step aside so your subconscious mind can bring forth new things." This is helpful since, "your subconscious mind knows no limits, and can help people see things from another perspective."

Reiki is meditative energy work that Pelkey became a believer in after only her first class. It is a therapeutic session that transfers energy and can be part of a life coaching session or given alone.

Pelkey explained that each client is different and that she does a blend of these practices when they come to see her "depending on what they're looking for and what they want to achieve." I asked Pelkey what stressful students can try themselves at home. Her answer: nothing. Sounds easy right? But it's actually something that takes practice for a lot of people.

"I think that most people don't stop and take time for themselves. That's the best thing you can do at home, people need to take time to do what I call nothingness. A lot of students think of their down time as going out and partying. While that might be a temporary fix, it's not taking nurturing time for yourself."

For more of Pelkey, check out the online radio show she co-hosts Sunday nights at 8 p.m. about self development at empowerhourradio.com. Or contact her at Luna Fitness by calling 480.456.5767, or by e-mail at Divineelements@vmdirect.com.
