Totally Radical!

Most of us were born in the ’80s, so there’s little for us to actually remember. Although you’ve all probably caught the VH1 television show, “I Love the ’80s,” so you know how bad the pop culture environment was back then. Here are, quite possibly, the three silliest fashion fads of the ’80s:
Spandex: Yes, spandex was cool and worn a lot, even in stirrup pant-style.
Shoulder Pads: Someone in the ’80s told women that big shoulder pads were hot and a craze was born. Unfortunately, they are not hot at all, in any way.
Acid wash jeans: I guess it was considered “bucking the system” to pour acid (bleach) onto your freshly dyed Levi’s to make them look like you’ve just come from hell and back.
If that didn’t get you in the mood to party like it’s 1989, I don’t know what will. Speaking of party, there’s a party this weekend to celebrate the ’80s as well as give back to the community.
All the proceeds go the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, so get down with your bad self. If you dress up like your favorite character from any of the classic ’80s movies, you could win a prize. That’s so choice!
Remember the ’80s Costume Party, Wrigley Mansion, 2501 E. Telawa Trail, Phoenix, 602.955.4079, Friday, July 18, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., $25
