It's not every day you get to see the lead singer of a favorite band performing solo, in an intimate (see: teeny-tiny) venue. So when two lead singers from groups instrumental to the rise of pop-punk in the late-'90s tour the country in a string of stripped-down affairs, you know you're in for something special.
Such is the case for Matt Pryor - formerly of The Get Up Kids and currently with New Amsterdams and The Terrible Twos - and Chris Conley, the lead singer and last original member of Saves the Day.
Pryor rolls into town on the heels of a whirlwind month that saw the release of both his debut solo effort, the sparkling folk-infused Confidence Man, and the latest full-length from his children's song side-project The Terrible Twos (who are also playing a kid-friendly early show). Yes, he's still a member of The New Amsterdams, and no, The Get Up Kids aren't getting back together anytime soon. Clearly, Pryor's already got enough on his plate.
Saves the Day's original lineup has been entirely whittled away over the years, so a Conley solo performance featuring acoustic renditions of the group's songs only makes sense.
Solo shows like this only come along so often, so soak up the coffee-house, sing-along vibe while you can.
