"The universities already nickel and dime students like crazy, and having to pay a few hundred dollars on top of all that is ridiculous," he said.
Charlotte Aden, a nursing junior at ASU's Downtown campus, said that she'd love to get her textbooks for free, and that she'd be happy about not wasting paper by going online.
"Being a nursing major, my books are all really expensive and having to pay for them each semester is a big chunk of change," she said. "Also I live by ASU West, but attend ASU downtown. Usually the bookstore at West does not have the books I need for the Downtown campus, which sucks."
Frank said that what Flat World is doing is charging smaller amounts of money, but because of this, accessing a larger amount of students than any of the other big publishers.
"This scares them because we're blowing up the business model and saying 'You know what? Let's give students a chance'," Frank said. "Treating students with dignity and viewing them as a reasonable consumer just feels right."
