My girlfriend and I have a lot of sex, but she’s doesn’t want to go on the pill so I always get stuck wearing a condom. A couple months ago she had a pregnancy scare and it got me wondering if it was possible for her to get pregnant in the hot tub. We have a good amount of sex in the hot tub, but I have never worn a condom because I always thought hot water killed sperm. Is that just a myth?

Scuba-Steve

Many scuba divers like yourself, Steve, make the mistake of assuming that high temperature waters hurt sperm badly enough to break those little bastards in half, but au contraire, even if your sperm count is lowered by sitting in a hot tub for more than 30 minutes, you can still ejaculate 200 to 500 million healthy sperm. Water resistant is right my friend; there’s no stopping those deep sea divers of yours once you open the flood gates. The moment you ejaculate it’s a free-style frenzy to the finish line that ends with a ferocious fight to fertilize the egg. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that can destroy your sperm or prevent a pregnancy from happening once your squiggly spunk is floating toward your girlfriend’s fallopian tubes.

Knowing now that hot water is not a contraceptive, you may be wondering if a condom is and are considering wearing one the next time you try to have underwater nookie. While it is safer for your penis to come prepared with proper swim attire (a condom), if you have plans to make sweet hot tub love, wearing a condom underwater really isn’t that much safer than not wearing one at all.
See, condoms that go on seemingly secure and snug can mislead you to feel confident that rub-a-dub-dubbing up on your woman in the tub is safe, but even the tightest fitting condoms don’t always stay put. For instance, if a man has an erection in a hot tub that becomes the slightest bit flaccid during sex, water can slip in the condom and increase the chance of it sliding off without his knowing or the actual act of sex and wet and wild motions that ensue can push water into the condom and cause it to slip off.

But that’s not all, what most splish-splashing sex partners don’t know is that the majority of condom companies fail to research their products’ ability to withstand heat, water and chemicals. Will your condom be able to withstand scorching hot temperatures underwater or will it be just as durable after coming in contact with several chemicals used to eliminate algae? It’s unknown, but odds are no. If a condom is built for land-only sex, then stay away from the seven seas, including the hot tub at your apartment complex.

As hot and steamy as hot tub sex may be, if you want to be safe and avoid the risk of your girlfriend getting pregnant, then I highly suggest halting all hot tub humping – unless she goes on birth control.
