Technology Dependent

I was alone in the office for about 10 minutes and it felt like I was the last person on earth. All the phone lines were lit up red - which means they're taken - and all I could think was "Damn, those sales people are nothing but dedicated. They come in at 8 a.m. to sell, sell, sell!"
Once others started to filter into the office, I was alerted that it wasn't the end of the world, but basically the closest thing to it.
The internet and phone lines were down!
Dun, dun, dun.
We were disconnected from all things technological, and it kind of sucked.
Then, because I had so much time on my hands, I got to thinking about our dependence on technology.
It's sort of sad, really. The same thing happened at school one time, and it was as if the world shut down. Classes were let out early, and many of the faculty and staff wandered the halls of the Cronkite building, blankly staring off into the distance.
Then, I started to think about our dependence on other things. What if soda companies stopped production for a day? What if oil companies stopped trading? What if fast food places stopped altogether?
After I bombarded myself with this plethora of fatalistic thoughts, I was sort of depressed.
Normally, when I need a pick-me-up, I look at LoLCats or google George W. Bush, and I have a laugh.
Damn...the want to not be dependent on technology versus the need to laugh. Damn, damn, double damn!
