An ASU alumni and a local art aficionado are changing the way up-and-coming artists can display their artwork as well as the public’s access to art.

Vincent de Sarthe founded the company collegeartonline.com after years of work at a New York City gallery and working with his father at his family’s local gallery, Pascal de Sarthe Fine Art. He and Adam Rosepink, director of collegeartonline.com, are trying to make art more accessible to those who don’t have the money to spend at galleries but love art.

Recently College Times spoke with Rosepink about this new site.

College Times: How did you come up with the idea for collegeartonline.com?

Adam Rosepink: After continuously noticing the vast array of talent in the college arena while attending Arizona State University, it became apparent to Vincent de Sarthe that college artists could offer original artwork at an affordable price. He then decided to ask me to be the director of Collegeartonline.com. I currently work in the art community in Scottsdale and am a native Phoenician. Together, Vincent and I are looking forward to changing the way people see fine art and to make it accessible to them. Collegeartonline.com lets student artists earn money and gain additional recognition in the art community. These student artists are able to create and maintain their own profile on the website and interact with potential buyers and with each other.

How long did it take to get everything together from the start of the idea to finish?

A website is an ongoing process and we seek to add new features … That being said, Collegeartonline.com has been in the works for about one year and it has involved numerous daily conversations from everything like the layout of the site to the mediums of art to incorporate. Vincent and I are currently adding the ability to have guest curators put on virtual exhibitions, which will be great for the online atmosphere.

How many artists do you have currently featured on your website?

As of this moment, Collegeartonline.com has around 75 artists that we are proud to have associated with the website. We continue to grow daily.

How do you find the artists?

Collegeartonline.com finds artists in a variety of ways. Social network sites have been extremely helpful in cultivating relationships with artists and we also establish a presence at colleges and universities from around the world. Additionally, Collegeartonline.com has found mass media beneficial in learning about student artists. We have a firm belief in the talent of these student artists and they in turn have been spectacular helping to advance the business. Each day, Collegeartonline.com actively seeks artists that are in school or have attended an institution in the last five years.

Why do you limit the price tags at $3,000?

Collegeartonline.com feels that a maximum price of $3,000 suits the needs of buyers who visit the website. If prices were to increase from that number, many feel that the site would be too similar to the prices seen in galleries. Collegeartonline.com was envisioned as an alternative to galleries by showcasing not only original artwork, but also affordable artwork. We have found that the price points incorporated into Collegeartonline.com are very accommodating and comfortable to potential buyers.
