But now, Bob Saget is gaining more and more recognition for his raunchy adult humor. So, where did the innocent Danny Tanner go?
Saget actually started standup when he was 17 years old, and told College Times he's always had an edgy sense of humor. But, he had to tone it down when he got the gig on "Full House," and soon after became the host of another popular family-friendly show, "America's Funniest Home Videos."
"It was a gift and also schizophrenic, because people would see me do standup and be like, 'What the hell is he doing?'" Saget said.
"It's been a good 15 years or 12 years or whatever of every year something else I would do people would be like, 'Wow, he's not the guy on 'Full House'.'"
Since "Full House," Saget has gone on to star on shows like "Surviving Suburbia," and was responsible for directing the mockumentary, "Farce of the Penguins." He's also made recurring appearances as himself, albeit an especially dirty one, on HBO's "Entourage."
Saget says his ability to constantly reinvent himself is one of the main reasons he has been able to maintain his acting career.
"The reason that it is so hard to get jobs is that there are billions of actors and there are some really, really gifted, talented people. But then there are a lot of people who just want to be stars, and that's just not the motivation for a lasting career," Saget said.
"I am always trying to find something that won't be boring and will be entertaining to people," Saget said.
When it comes to comedy, Saget is all about having a good time.
"All I want to do is have fun. I get really excited to go on tour and people to go out for the night. They're working hard, and they choose to spend their money to come see me. What I want them to do is have a night that they love," Saget said.
Saget has been known to reach a largely college-age audience. But Saget says he sees a much more eclectic group.
"I look in the audience and it's a bunch of 18-year-olds, or 16-year-olds with fake IDs, or 20-year-olds, college people and then families. It's like a kid will bring his parents, and then couples. And then I will have like six blue-haired ladies who are like 'We know you're a nice man, but we just love the raunchy stuff!'" Saget said.
