The Valley's own little-but-big rock band is hitting the Marquee for two nights of costumed madness before they head across the pond to rock the Brits. Catch them while you can. But don't worry, they'll come back. They always do.
College Times tried to squeeze Halloween costume ideas out of Clyne, but he wouldn't budge.
College Times: For your new album, starting in February you decided to release one song every week with a corresponding video. Why did you choose to do it that way?
Clyne: It was really because we wanted to do it quickly. The process … is a very long one and involves a lot of people planning ahead. We wanted to essentially give the music to our audience as quickly as we could. We decided to record it and sync it to a video and mix it as quickly as we could. We're a little independent rock and roll band. Everybody in the group has a lot of stuff … a lot of tasks. So, it was a very ambitious thing to want to do a song a week and sync it to a video. I think we came close to achieving that goal, but to make a long answer longer, it was really because we wanted to get it to the fans as quickly as we could.
I saw on your tour schedule that you guys are heading to the UK. Have you toured through the UK before?
No, this will be our first visit there.
What do you plan on doing while your there? Plan on seeing any of the sights?
I don't think so. I think we're going to just bring awesome American rock and roll to the British isle.
Since this interview is to preview your Halloween shows, what makes your Halloween show better than any of the others going on in the Valley?
Well, first and foremost it's a Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers show. You should know that. There's no equal rock and roll show. We serve the finest rock and roll audience on the planet. There's no equal to the high spirits and good vibrations that happen during a rock and roll concert. It's a perfect blending of band and audience. It all becomes one big happy family. Aside from that, we're doing some fun concert themes. On Friday night, we call that the 'when in Rome night,' so we encourage everybody to put on their coolest Roman tunic or Roman themed outfit and come enjoy the decadence that will be Friday night. Saturday, of course, is going with the long established tradition of Halloween parties. Bring your biggest collar and best polyester for some rock and roll.
Do you have a costume picked out yet?
Yes, I do!
Can you reveal that to us?
[Laughs] No, I'd really rather not. I'll reveal it that night.
What makes a good costume? What's the kind of costume that's going to win the contest at the Marquee that night?
Luckily I don't have to judge it. It's probably a combination of attention to detail and also some ingenuity and imagination. It has to go outside what the standard costumes are going to be. I imagine it's going to be something very imaginative and also very well put-together. The Marquee Theatre is giving away the prize. I think it's a $500 gift certificate.
