The Brits know how to cut to the core of young Americans. Here we are, stuck in boring classes, working a hum-drum part-time job at the local fast food restaurant/chain retail store of choice, wishing for a vacation. Then bands like The Cribs come along, who transport us to foggy London town, even if only for the 47 minute span of an album.
But it's not the Big Ben, Buckingham Palace kind of London they bring us to. It's the gritty, broke, young London where underground shows are the destination of choice.
The Cribs, dubbed "the biggest cult band in the UK," are back again in full-force with Ignore the Ignorant. This time they've brought ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr on board for a dark, indie-style adventure featuring songs like the ultra-catchy "We Were Aborted" through borderline ballads like "Save Your Secrets." The disc has a similar tempo throughout making some of the songs blend together, but brother duo Gary and Ryan Jarman keep it interesting with intense smokers' vocals and the passion behind them.
