Castmates Cudmore and Bewley star as part of the Volturi band of vampires in the second film of the "Twilight" series. For the uninitiated, the Volturi are an organized coven of vampires that enforce the laws of the vampire world.
Both actors were in Vancouver at the time of the audition process for "New Moon," and became part of the group cast to play supporting roles.
Cudmore describes the process like any other audition. He worked on playing the character beforehand, tried his hardest during the actual audition, and then hoped for the best.
Except this wasn't just any audition.
"A week later, agent calls and they want to use you for the role and all of sudden you are in this mega-franchise," Cudmore said.
It was not until Cudmore was cast in the film as Felix that he started reading the "Twilight" books by Stephenie Meyer.
Bewley, on the other hand, took a different approach to research his role as Demetri.
"I just threw it out there on Facebook. I'm like, 'I got a Twilight position, is there anyone that can help me?' My inbox filled up very quickly," Bewley said.
Cudmore, who has previous stunt-work experience playing Colossus in "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "X2," was able to do all of his own stunts in "New Moon", including a fight scene with Robert Pattinson (who plays Edward Cullen in the film).
He promises it to be a "really cool fight scene" and is looking forward to seeing the end result.
"Working on it in pieces is always strange, because you know the grand scheme of the fight, you know what is going to happen, but you never really know what it is going to be like when everything is put together," Cudmore said.
Cudmore said doing his own stunts allows the audience to better understand the depths of his character.
"Otherwise it would have been cuts and you wouldn't really be able to see the interaction on your characters. You wouldn't be able to see Felix enjoying letting loose. It would have been hiding faces and various things and it wouldn't have come out as well," Cudmore said.
To cope with the hype of the film, Bewley said he is "rolling with the punches."
"I haven't felt that real sense of weight to this thing yet. I'm just looking forward to it. It's an opportunity of a lifetime," Bewley said.
Cudmore agrees.
"It just puts your career in a different path. That door might have been slightly cracked open, but now its open wide," Cudmore said.
Both Bewley and Cudmore will appear in the third film of the Twilight series, "Eclipse," which is set to be released in the summer of 2010.
